Update – January 30, 2024

The bargaining committee has continued meeting with the employer and significant progress has been made on achieving a fair and favourable collective agreement for our members.

We thank all of our members for their patience and understanding during this lengthy and difficult process.

The bargaining committee is confident that a tentative deal may be reached soon and we can bring this agreement to the members for voting. As soon as we have a tentative agreement in place, a general meeting will be booked to inform our members of the details within it and the process for voting to accept, which is an essential step in ensuring transparency and democratic participation from all members.

The next bargaining date is on February 6th and hopefully this will be the last meeting required to finalize the agreement.

Thank you for your commitment and resilience in these challenging times. Together, we will work towards a positive outcome for all CUPE members at MBLL.

Update – December 18, 2023

CUPE was notified that the employer was not ready to provide an offer for the scheduled December 11th meeting. Due to the upcoming holidays and availability of the employer and conciliator, new bargaining dates have been set for January 23rd & 24th of 2024.

As we all know, Unifor has committed to a strike date of Dec. 23rd, if they do not have an agreement in place by that date. It is quite obvious that the employer is prioritizing the bargaining with Unifor over any discussions with CUPE.

The bargaining committee feels it is time to start preparing for possible job action in the future. It takes a lot of work and coordination to partake in job action and this is why we are now calling for volunteers for a strike committee. These people will be organizing and coordinating  all of the administrative tasks related to members being on strike. Training sessions for all strike committee members will be provided by CUPE. Please sign up on the link below if you would like to volunteer and assist in this process.

Update – December 4, 2023

Update – October 20, 2023

Dear CUPE members,

CUPE has received official notice from MBLL that the previously scheduled bargaining dates at the end of October will be postponed. The reason for this delay is that the company’s senior leadership is in the process of arranging a meeting with the new Manitoba NDP government to receive its fresh mandate and direction for MBLL. Given the significance of this meeting, it may take a few weeks to coordinate all the necessary details.

In light of these circumstances, we have rescheduled the next bargaining dates to be on December 4th, 5th, and 11th. While we understand that this delay may be frustrating, we want to emphasize that CUPE fully supports the engagement between the new NDP government and MBLL’s management.

We are pleased that a government that values and uplifts workers now leads Manitoba, and we are hopeful that this new government will encourage MBLL’s management to resolve the ongoing uncertainty our members have been facing. Our objective remains clear: to secure a fair and reasonable contract that ensures the well-being of our dedicated members.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process and will continue to keep you updated on any developments as they unfold. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your commitment and resilience in these challenging times. Together, we will work towards a positive outcome for all CUPE members at MBLL.

In solidarity,

CUPE Executives

Update – January 30th, 2023

After many failed attempts to contact our national representative, we have found out that Elizabeth is no longer working with CUPE.

We have requested a new CUPE rep. be assigned to us as soon as possible as we are in the midst of our negotiations and executive elections.

For the time being everything is on hold until we get a new permanent CUPE representative assigned to us.

We are still waiting for MBLL to reply to our proposals. There have been no communications thus far from management on the contract negotiations.

Update – November 02, 2022

Negotiation is Continuing…

CUPE local 5021 is still in negotiations with the employer. We have had some challenges; we have also recommended some options to the employer. We remain confident that MBLL will be amiable to at least some of the options we’ve recommended to them.

We are waiting for response from the employer on our recommended options. We have been informed that it may take some time as there are other negotiations going on with other unions in the company.

We are unable to share any details at this time, due to contract not been signed. We remain steadfast in getting our local an optimum CA.

Update – April 04, 2022

CUPE 5021 is currently in negotiations with your Employer, as we attempt to achieve a fair and freely negotiated collective agreement. This round has proven to be very challenging, but we remain optimistic about reaching an agreement at the table.

As you may be aware, the current cost of living has skyrocketed and shows no sign of returning to normal levels any time soon. With this in mind, we feel that the membership deserves a fair wage increase to help offset the cost of living, and to recognize your important work. We will continue to fight for fair wages and not accept imposed wage mandates.

While we cannot provide too much detail with respect to the ongoing negotiations, we will endeavour to keep you updated and we ask for your support and solidarity as we work hard to negotiate the best possible collective agreement for you.

We would ask that you provide your personal contact information, including your personal email (if you have not already done so), so we can have direct contact with members moving forward through this process.
